Malaysia Automatic Toilet

After months of waiting, I finally visited the First Malaysia Automatic Toilet, which cost the govt RM 400,000 each.

Instructions on how to use the toilet, first put 20 cents in the the machine and the door will open automatically. Don't worry if you have no small change, there is a toilet attendant there to welcome you.

The basin are fitted with automatic water and soap dispenser with an automatic hand blower as well.

Since you are going allocated 15 minutes in the toilet, the air-condition is installed to keep you cool while you enjoy your visit.

For those who usually uses public toilet in KL, each entry cost 50 cents and if you tissue, you will need to pay an additional 50 cents. The automatic toilets have endless supplies of tissues, the best of all, it cost only 20 cents pervisit.

It is like doing your business in a lift. Everything is brand new, fitted with air-con with nice tiles flooring.

SMART Tunnel

Heavy vehicles and motorcycles will be barred from using the soon-to be completed SMART (Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel) tunnel for safety reasons. Work on the RM1.922 billion project started in 2003 aimed at alleviating flash floods. It comprise a 10 km stormwater tunnel and a double-storey motorway tunnel.

But the SMART director Datuk Azmi Mat Nor said when operational, the tunnel that is expected to ease congestion along Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Sungai Besi will only be for light vehicles.

I guess heavy vehicles and motorcycles are not "SMART" enough that is why they are not allowed to use the RM 1.922 billion SMART tunnel.

BTW if anyone of you are "SMART", please participate in the SMART Tunnel Run on 11 March 2007. This event is held in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Malaysia. The 10km run inside the tunnel (7.5km) and along Jalan Davis/Jalan Tun Razak (2.5km).

Bull and Bear

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) made fresh rally highs in early trade last week and then plunged on a broad sell-off influenced by the huge losses in Asian exchanges triggered by China’s Shanghai Exchange debacle. It finally closed Friday with massive losses.
Markets in Asia and Europe fell again Monday, extending their slide into a second week as investors worried about a possible global slowdown dumped stocks that had surged in recent weeks.
.
Investors everywhere were making great leaps of faith after the Chinese New Year break. Few were the voices of doom and many were the believers that the world had entered a golden age of prosperity that would allow the bull market to charge ahead forever. When everyone least expected it, the balloon hit the pin.

Gambling during CNY

Eleven charged with gambling during CNY celebrations

Ten men and a woman were charged in a magistrate’s court here on Monday with gambling in public during the Chinese New Year celebrations.

The 11, aged between 24 and 64 years old, were accused of committing the offence on March 2, just two days before Chap Goh Meh, around 7am at a stall along Jalan Club in Jinjang Utara.

Under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, the offence is punishable with a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months’ jail or both upon conviction.

You guys out there better becareful when you are gambling at home as well. I guess policemen have nothing much to do during CNY. It will be a trend that every CNY there will be at least a group of people arrested for gambling in public.

Good night sleep.

Getting a solid 7 to 8 hours of sleep? Head for the kitchen and enjoy one or two of these 10 foods. They relax tense muscles, quiet buzzing minds, or get calming.

Bananas. They're practically a sleeping pill in a peel. In addition bananas contain magnesium, a muscle relaxant.

Chamomile tea. The reason chamomile is such a staple of bedtime tea blends is its mild sedating effect - it's the perfect natural antidote for restless minds/bodies.

Warm milk. It's not a myth. Milk has some tryptophan - an amino acid that has a sedative - like effect - and calcium, which helps the brain use tryptophan. Plus there's the psychological throw-back to infancy, when a warm bottle meant "relax, everything's fine."

Honey. Drizzle a little in your warm milk or herb tea. Lots of sugar is stimulating, but a little glucose tells your brain to turn off orexin, a recently discovered neurotransmitter that's linked to alertness.

Potatoes. A small baked spud won't overwhelm your GI tract, and it clears away acids that can interfere with yawn-inducing tryptophan. To up the soothing effects, mash it with warm milk.

Oatmeal. Oats are a rich source of sleep - inviting melatonin, and a small bowl of warm cereal with a splash of maple syrup is cozy - plus if you've got the munchies, it's filling too.

Almonds. A handful of these heart-healthy nuts can be snooze-inducing, as they contain both tryptophan and a nice dose of muscle-relaxing magnesium.

Whole-wheat bread. A slice of toast with your tea and honey will release insulin, which helps tryptophan get to your brain, where it's converted to serotonin and quietly murmurs "time to sleep."

Hopefully with those images, the explaination would be much better to be understood. As some may as, 'What is a banana?', 'What is Chamomile tea?'.

Bali

Bali, a tropical island in the Indonesian archipelago, is so picturesque and immaculate it could almost be a painted backdrop. It has rice paddies tripping down hillsides like giant steps, volcanoes soaring up through the clouds, dense tropical jungle, long sandy beaches, warm blue water, crashing surf and friendly people who don't just have a culture but actually live it. In Bali spirits come out to play in the moonlight, every night is a festival and even a funeral is an opportunity to have a good time.
Unlike any other island in largely Muslim Indonesia, Bali is a pocket of Hindu religion and culture, although Balinese Hinduism is so far removed from the original Indian variety that the casual eye will be hard put to spot any similarities.
Amusement Parks in Bali:

Air Bali, Helicopter tour around Bali.

Bird Park,
Butterfly Park,
Camel Safari,
Elephant Safari Park, A trip on the elephants in the jungles, that can last 15, 40 or 60 min. During this time if there are not many tourists it is possible to ride the elephant sitting on its neck, make some circus tricks, get into the swimmimg-pool. The price is approximately 60 USD.
Odyssey Submarine, Underwater tour.

Rimba Reptile Park, Adjacent to Bird Park.

Waterbom Park, Swimming pool, water slides.

Zoo Park, Wildlife conservation area.

Garuda Wisnu Kencana. Created by I Nyoman Nuarta. This is statue of god Wisnu riding the mythical Garuda bird.
Bali Bomb, This monument commemorates the 202 victims of the first Bali Bomb attack in October 2002, including 161 tourists from 21 countries. The site of the former Sari Club, obliterated in one of the blasts, lies adjacent to the monument. It has not been redeveloped.

Angkor Wat

There are two great complexes of ancient temples in Southeast Asia, one at Bagan in Burma, the other at Angkor in Cambodia. The temples of Angkor, built by the Khmer civilization between 802 and 1220 AD, represent one of humankind's most astonishing and enduring architectural achievements.

This is a sunrise view from Angkor Wat.... so peaceful.

Elephants scuptures

Since the 1990s Angkor Wat has seen a resumption of conservation efforts and a massive increase in tourism. The temple is part of the Angkor World Heritage Site, established in 1992. The temple has become a symbol of Cambodia, and is a source of great pride for the country's people. A depiction of Angkor Wat has been a part of every Cambodian national flag since the introduction of the first version circa 1863.

Angkor Wat has become a major tourist destination: attendance figures for the temple are not published, but in 2004 the country received just over a million international arrivals, of whom according to the Ministry of Tourism 57% planned to visit the temple. The influx of tourists has so far caused relatively little damage, other than some graffiti; ropes and wooden steps have been introduced to protect the bas reliefs and floors, respectively. Tourism has also provided some additional funds for maintenance approximately 28% of ticket revenues across the whole Angkor site is spent on the temples although most work is carried out by foreign government-sponsored teams rather than by the Cambodian authorities.

Dubai

Several days ago there was a travel documentary regarding Dubai and it was very amusing. Dubai has many interesting tourism destination to offer,

The Burj Al Arab, was acknowledged as The Best Hotel of The Year in 2005. It is also currently refered as the symbol for Dubai. The hotel offer the highest levels of personalised service in the most luxurious surroundings imaginable and is designed to provide maximum comfort.

Ski Dubai the first indoor ski resort in the Middle East has a temperature controlled at -1° to -2°, and covered with real snow throughout the year. The theme of Ski Dubai is that of a mountain resort with qualified instructors to guide you through the intricacies of learning to ski or snowboard.

The Palm Jumeirah is the world's largest man made island made as a residential and tourism destination. The island is in the shape of a palm tree consisting consists of a trunk, a crown with 17 fronds, and a surrounding crescent island that forms an 11 kilometre-long breakwater. The island is 5 kilometres by 5 kilometres and its total area is larger than 800 football pitches.

The World is an archipelago of artificial islands, shaped like the continents of the Earth, being constructed off the coast of Dubai. The World will consist of 250 to 300 smaller private artificial islands divided into four categories: private homes, estate homes, dream resorts, and community islands.

UCSI

UCSI, stands for University College Sedaya International.
I have been always wondering what does the International means.

It is one of the multi culture university I had ever seen, students from China, Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Nigeria, Kenya, and some Middle East countries. Not one or two, about in hundreds to thousands.
Students from China and India really does not make any difference as it's kinda hard to differenciate between them and Malaysian by their appearence. You can only differenciate them when you speak to them.

But when the students from Kenya and Nigeria came, with immediate effect the whole campus seems to be in a totally different place. Every where you go, there will be a group of Nigeria or Kenyans....ALL BLACK...

Eye on Malaysia revisit.

People may be wondering why "revisit"?? The Eye on Malaysia really that nice??
Well, it's something new in KL, visit it while it's still new. In the later days, it may be run down and you will be dissapointed then.

Time to show off the professionalism in taking night scene. This would be the right place. REMEMBER to bring your trusty tripod along. It might sound easy, but it really takes a lot of practice to take nice night scene photo.

Tek's 24th birthday

Koh Chin Tek, born on 18th January 1983 currently studying in UCSI... ok ok enough, I'm not writing an obituary.

Muahah...
Anyway, birthday celebration with all my housemates. Yee Yee, Jacy, Tek, Me n An Sheng.

These are the bunch of friends who I usually hang out with in UCSI.

Bet, you must be wondering what is written on the cake. Have a closer look at the overweight Ultraman, isn't it adorable??

One of my housemate did not turn up for the party,..... it is the one and only.. Scooby (Garfield wanna be). Scooby is HYPERACTIVE, but wonder why it's OVERWEIGHT. Even after undergoing several weeks of swimming in Segamat, Johor. But on the bright side Scooby is now a qualified swimmer cum actor. Scooby will be appearing in the movie, "Flooding of Segamat".

Right after the celebration, went up to a small hill in Cheras to enjoy the night view of KL, if you had watched the "Sinking of Japan", this scene is sooooo similar to the movie. The "Burning of KL". (Do have a closer view at KLCC, it seems like it's on fire. Thick smoke coming out from the 70th floor.)
"Sinking of Japan"

Eyes on Malaysia.

I am sure most of you may heard of it, since it was highly promoted in the Visit Malaysia 2007 tour. Celebrating Malaysia 50th Independence.

Fireworks performance will be held everynight for the entire month of Jan 2007 to mark the beginning of the celebration. Below are some sample photos...

For those who are in PENANG, JOHOR and etc etc, what are you waiting for ??? This is a very very good excuse to come to KL this month.

Digital Mall

It started when I was told that there will be a RM 1 for a Canon Ip1200 for sale, as my Epson C59 which I bought exactly 2 weeks ago has not function. I wonder what was the purpose of buying it at the first place. A reminder to ALL, think at least 5 times before purchasing an EPSON printer.

Before the day started, I was awoke by my dear neighbour (next door) early this morning by his early idiotic floor wash, AT 6AM. Curse him !! It made me ponder for a minute who on earth would do so before dawn? I walked up to the window and have a glance at him, indirectly "hint' him that he annoyed me. Immediatly he stop what ever he is doing and went back into his house. So went back to bed to continue my sleep.... I was again awoke by my dear nieghbour(opposite house) as his car was towed away [thank god]. From a wild guess, I presumed that he must had not been paying his car instalment for quite some time.... Good for him, now he has less car to take care off as he always has trouble "parking' his car.

Headed to Digital Mall for their grand opening. It was crowded, due to my suprise many people lined up to enter the building. They are not getting any thing for entering the building first, let me extrapolate it....... I think the que was at least 500m long. TOOO bad they missed the lion & dragon dance. The place was tooooo crowded until the dragon does not have enough space to performed it's dance gracefully. VIP's attended were, Deputy Tourism Minister, Dato' Donald Lim, Kenny B and another 2 more unidentified HK atrist.... If you know who he is do drop a message and identified him. Thank u.

The fun starts was when they allowed people to enter the building, people rushed into as if everything is FOC. Security guards shouted "Stop pushing.. stop pushing.. people might get hurt.. EVERYONE STEP BACK !!!...Securtity A and B, SHUT all the entrance NOW!.." The situation was decribed as if a riot was about to happen. After several minutes, guards gave up and open the entrance for public. As they said "Customers are always right". During the commotion, we managed to squeeze in. The interior decoration can be described as a replica of low yat.

After going through all those hassle, I left the building empty handed.

Christmas

Went to Tony Roma at Sunway, the ribs was so nice with I could had another piece of that. Tasted something like "char siew". Beside that had chicken and beef sandwich. The dinner was good. Might be going there again if I have extra money. In the middle of the dinner I over heard some conversation that today is Kenny's birthday. Happy Birthday Kenny !!! You are two days older than me. Muahahha.
After dinner, thought when I thought we are going to leave suddenly had a cake appear. A fruit cake. Different from the normal fruit cake that we bought from shops. Thank you, kenny, lch, kjz, jiabao, ivy, and pei chen. Btw pei chen's speak a very fluent n fast mandarin. faster than my chinese housemate.

While on my way to the carpark, received a call from my housemates asking for yum cha at Station 1. So went there, half way through the yum cha session and out of my expectation, the waiter took out a cake. A yam cake, kinda different from the traditional cake I had. Thank you, tek, dan, chek n jacy.

On top of that, my internship will be ending soon. Would miss my colleagues in United Perundings, they had taugh me a lot for the past two months. Enjoyed the duration there may be because was accompanied by liew and kok. They accompanied me for lunch almost everyday and would always have short breaks now and then to share a joke or two.

Christmas is just around the corner, so much celebration in such a short period. Before I forget, congratulations Aly & Rey on their wedding last weekend. The wedding reception was fun and it showed that Malaysian can live in a multiculture society. Aly is my cousin bro, father is chinese and mother is a malay, Rey is Aly's wife, Rey's father is a malay and mother is a chinese. So the wedding was seperated to several parts and of course Islam would be the their religion and the wedding was performed according to the Islamic way. After the official ceremony, the chinese "tea" ceremony begins. Tea ceremony is a chinese culture something like introducing the new family members and giving blessings to them. It the first time I witness such unique wedding. I guess I will futher elaborate the wedding in the next blog.......

I am so happy till I write this blog at 2.10am in the morning. Better take a rest now. Will be going to work later. Thank you all again for all the fun and laughter.

Weekend

As the same as most of you, I loves weekends. Since I started my internship I am dying to have a long weekend break. Had a very memorable and tiring weekend, well I will start from Saturday, went to a condo in Bukit Tunku(Kin Yan's relative) with Kin Yan and Ling Siong, played table tennis, squash, swimming followed by steam bath. Muahahha it reminds me of my secondary days where I used to visit ISC every weekend.

Sunday, went to Taman Pertanian with Kin Yan and his friends, at Shah Alam. It is a very huge park where usually visitors will cycle around the park for hours, If you don't like to cycle, you can always take the coach or walk. Cycling, however, is my recommended mode of transportation. The park is quite huge and with so many slopes, it can be quite tiring for the average exercise challenged like me. But it was the slopes which also provided the best part of the ride. The wind blowing in your hair when you are going downhill at top speed is one of the most incredible experiences.

We started our cycle at 8.55am, cycle around the park there are two places that is worth visiting. The four season house, where they will change the environment of the room acoording to season in the north. It's about to be winter so the room has been changed into a snow house. There are real snow flakes all over and the temperature is from -2 to -7 celcius, it's very much better than the Snow House in Mines Wonderland. We are all sweaty and rushed into the snow house.... we were froze there. Ice flakes Muahaha, one of Kin Yan's friend have the desire to drink Coke in the snow house. He described it as one of the wonders of the world, but too bad his dream did not came through.

The second part was the Sapu Tangan Watch Tower. I found it to be the most challenging destination in the entire park. It kinda reminds me of the Mount Kinabalu trip I went several years ago, we got to give encouragement to each other to keep walking. If you happen to go there, don't miss this place.

At 1.55pm we ended our holiday in park, we rush to the car and grab anything we can eat and munch on it. We were starving, did not had anything since breakfast. We head to Klang for bak kut teh, it is a bit different from the one I normally had. There are so many bak kut teh in that 2 rows of shop, but it's strange as most of it is fully occupied.

After that, went to TGV to watch Happy Feet. Was embarassed by the ticket attendent, he said " All four of you still watch cartoon?" Sigh....

Weekend passed very quickly, and tomorrow is Monday hopefully I would not felt sleepy in office.

BETNET(Malaysia) 2006

It was my pleasure be one of the student helper representing UCSI in this conference. It may sounds like a lot of things to do, but in actual fact student helpers are only needed on the first day of the event where participant, speaker register themself. So indirectly student helpers benefits from it as we would be able to listen to the conference for FREE. Btw, each participant will have to pay RM 900 to attend.

Beside 'attending' the conference, it was a reunion meeting for me, Tiew Hui, Zhan Liu and Chia Kuang came as a helper as well representing UNITEN. When there is tea breaks, we would be sitting together catching up with old times.

I was dissapointed with some of the student helpers, as they were given the opportunity to attend the conference for free, they would not even bother to listen to it. Their purpose in the conference were just to indulge in the hotel breakfast, tea breaks, lunch breaks and the banquet dinner.

Adverlets
