Gambling during CNY

Eleven charged with gambling during CNY celebrations

Ten men and a woman were charged in a magistrate’s court here on Monday with gambling in public during the Chinese New Year celebrations.

The 11, aged between 24 and 64 years old, were accused of committing the offence on March 2, just two days before Chap Goh Meh, around 7am at a stall along Jalan Club in Jinjang Utara.

Under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, the offence is punishable with a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months’ jail or both upon conviction.

You guys out there better becareful when you are gambling at home as well. I guess policemen have nothing much to do during CNY. It will be a trend that every CNY there will be at least a group of people arrested for gambling in public.
