Circuit

Throught the years, as far as I know usually circuits are constructed and tested on the protoboard or fabricate it on a PCB.....

Here is an example of circuit on PCB,

Yesterday, I saw the most amazing circuit construction ever. Circuit with just crocodile clips.

Either he is lazy or he does not know how to use the protoboard. Crazy fellow .....

Bakun Hydroelectric Project

The Bakun Hydroelectric Project is located in Sarawak, Malaysia on the Balui River. As part of the project, the tallest concrete-faced rockfill dam in the world would be built. This would also be the largest dam in Asia outside of China. It is expected to generate 2,400 megawatts (MW) of electricity once completed.

The purpose for the dam was to meet growing demand for electricity. However, most of this demand lies in Peninsular Malaysia and not East Malaysia, where the dam is located. The original idea was to have 30% of the generated capacity consumed in East Malaysia and the rest sent to Peninsular Malaysia. This plan envisioned 660 km of overhead HVDC transmission lines in East Malaysia, 670 km of undersea HVDC cable and 460 km of HVDC transmission line in Peninsular Malaysia.

Future plans for the dam include connecting it to an envisioned Trans-Borneo Power Grid Interconnection, which would be a grid to supply power to Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei, and Kalimantan. There have been mentions of this grid made within ASEAN meetings but no actions have been taken by any party.

The dam was to be built beginning in 1994 was originally scheduled for completion in 2003. The Bakun hydroelectric project in Sarawak is expected to be fully operational in May 2011, the Dewan Rakyat was told on Wednesday [28.03.07] .Finance Ministry parliamentary secretary Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya said the main dam was 65.9 per cent completed and was expected to be ready in the third quarter of 2009 with the first turbine to swing into action in October that year.

Once completed.

  • Bakun Dam will be the tallest concrete faced rockfill dam (CFRD) in the world.
  • Bakun Lake will be the biggest lake in Malaysia by storage volume.
  • Bakun Lake will be the largest lake in Malaysia by surface area, even though it is not apparent on the map, due the the sliver shape of the various lake tributaries, as a result of location in the highland valleys.
  • Bakun Power Station will be the largest hydroelectric dam in Malaysia, surpassing the currently largest Pergau Dam 's power station in Malaysia.
  • Bakun submarine power cable will be the longest in the world, surpassing the current Norway to Netherland submarine cable.

Shisha

Shi sha? sound like a pet name to me. Many of you may had seen it before, but does not know what it is. It is commonly sighted in many mamak stalls around you.

Shisha refers to the flavoured tobacco used in the smoking process using a hookah, also commonly known as ‘hubble bubble’ and ‘narghile’. The tobacco is soaked in fruits shavings such as apples, grapes and strawberries.

A hookah consists of a base, pipe, bowl and hose or a mouthpiece. Tobacco is placed in the bowl, which is at the top of the pipe structure. An aluminium foil covers the bowl and small charcoal pieces are then placed on the foil, which is punctured using a pin to gently heat the tobacco.

When smoked using the hose, smooth, sweet-smelling vapour is filtered through the base containing water. It also comes in floral flavours such as coconut, vanilla and rose.

Many may argue that Shisha smoking is not harmful, medical experts say otherwise. As it depends on several factors such as frequency of use, how deep the inhalation or if other ingredients are added besides tobacco itself.

The water filter is a gimmick. Most of the toxic chemicals and nicotine are not water-soluble. Hence, they pass through the filter and is inhaled by a smoker, although other irritant substances, which are water-soluble, will get filtered.

World Health Organisation (WHO) had announced that a single session of smoking Shisha yields a nicotine intake equivalent to more than one pack of cigarettes.
Still wondering what is Shisha is?? Here is an example of how it's used.
Just incase some many want to have a more information of Shisha, the links below may be useful.

PTPTN

Better think twice for not paying your PTPTN, as they may pass the entire job of recovering student loans to the Inland Revenue Board by next year.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed hoped that by doing this, more money would be recovered and this could be made available to other student borrowers whose number was increasing by about 150,000 every year.

Lucky and Flo.

Labrador Retrievers from Northern Ireland sniffed out the polycarbonate used in making the discs.
Trained to be the first canines in the world to sniff out discs, the dogs would be able to locate discs packed in boxes or unregistered containers.Even if the dogs cannot distinguish between genuine and pirated discs, enforcement officers said the dogs will still be valuable in locating discs disguised as other items. When taken to a scene, the dogs would sniff around, and they would sit down and wag their tails should they find something suspicious.
They had their first major success yesterday when they led enforcement officers to a cache of one million pirated optical discs worth RM10mil.
It was said that undisclosed bounty had been put up for those dogs.
In 2004, a drug cartel in Colombia placed a US$10,000 (RM35,000) price on the head of a golden Labrador Retriever named Agata, one of Colombia’s best drug-sniffing dogs. She began her career in 2003 and has since helped track down 300kg of cocaine and 20kg of heroin.

Teh Tarik At Above 30,000 Feet

Ever thought of having a freshy brew cup of Teh Tarik on board a plane? Khu or Kak Engku, a flight attendent with AirAsia doesit within the narrow confines of the AirAsia Airbus aisle and not a single drop of the teh tarik falls onto the carpet despite using just two small Styrofoam cups.
So hope that she would be on your next flight with AirAsia, "Live Teh Tarik Performance at Above 30,000 Feet".

Cleaner Toilets Soon..

More and more campaign are currently being implemented to keep toilets clean.
Bukit Gasing assemblyman Datuk Dr Lim Thuang Seng said the state[Selangor] government will not compromise on the cleanliness of public toilets. They have instructed all Health Departments in local authorities to conduct checks on public toilets at shopping complexes and petrol kiosks. Surprise checks will be conducted and the owners must keep the toilets clean at all times otherwise the outlet’s business license can be revoked.

Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo launched the Clean Toilet Campaign in 2004 but not much changes observed for the past 3 years.

Lets give them a year to implement it, hopefully by 2008 we would be able to use more cleaner toilets. Well, cleaner toilets does not means more Autotoilet !!!! It would be a waste of public funds. The current campaign that will be implemented by Datuk Lim sounds reasonable.

Siem Reap

Siem Reap , is the capital of Siem Reap Province, located in the northern Cambodia. Siem Reap, literally "Siam Defeated", commemorates a Khmer victory over the neighboring kingdom of Thailand. These days, however, the only rampaging hordes are the tourists heading to Angkor as is the primary access point for the Angkor Archaeological Park.

It's quite laid-back and all in all a pleasant place to stay while touring the temples. It's a nice compromise between observing Cambodian life and enjoying the amenities of modern services and entertainment, thanks to the large expatriate community in Siem Reap.

Angkor Archaeological Park , located in northern Cambodia, is one of the most important archaeological sites in South-East Asia. Stretching over some 400 sq. km, including forested area, Angkor contains the magnificent remains of several capitals of the Khmer Empire, from the 9th to the 15th century CE. These include the famous Temple of Angkor Wat and, at Angkor Thom, the Bayon Temple with its countless sculptural decorations.

Well, we ordered Sweet Sour Pork, Kailan and Claypot Seafood Taufu. HE HE He, at least we did ordered something with seafood inside.
Taufu
Kailan
The bill came up to RM 50 for a table of 3. Yeah, the price might be slightly higher than usual, but nevertheless, it's worth it.

24 As SPM in news again

The man who recently announced that he and his son had obtained 24 1As each in the SPM examination explained that it was a strategy to motivate his son who is in Form Five now, to strive for the best.

He explained that his son is taking 12 subjects, and he told him that if he studied hard enough, he could achieve not just 12 1As but even 24 1As. This is to tell him that with enough effort he can achieve anything.

I think the man is kinda stupid, try to motivate his son by that method. If I am from the Education Ministry I would defiantely have harsh actions taken against him. He almost made the whole ministry look stupid for making such error in the examination result slip.

Previously I blog about it in 24 A1's in SPM

America

Saw some photos at " patriotic posters " , while browsing through the link I saw some familiar images which America and Malaysia have in common. There are three images which I notices that most Malaysian would able to recgonize.

The American Flag which is quite similiar to the Malaysian Flag.

Then the Golden Gate Bridge which is similiar to the Penang Bridge.

Last but not least a monument which is similiar to the Tugu Negara.

Beside these few there are many more beautiful pictures of America from the link, The Statue of Liberty, past Presidents, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and many more.
Besides photo, there are paintings as well like the Natives Red Indians and the Wild West as well.

24 A1's in SPM

My eyes almost pop out when I saw the news. It's even greater than Miss Nadia Amira that obtained 18A's.

A 53-year-old man, seeking publicity in the Tamil Nesan daily, claimed to have sat for the exams at a well-known school here with his 13-year-old son and both achieved 100% marks in all the 24 subjects.

If it's true, what more can I say? May be he will be able to obtain his PHD by the age of 14. Then followed by PROF at the age of 18. By the age of 25, he might even have a University named after him, and then proclaim himself as the Pro-Cansellor. Perhaps a Nobel Prize for his outstanding achievement.

But toooooooo bad Perak State Education director Datuk Mohammed Zakaria Mohd Noor said department's initial investigation showed that the result slips were fake.

Have a look here.

Consumer Claims Tribunal

Yam Soon Huat had bought a pair of shoes costing RM850 in the hope that it would relieve his backache. However, after using it less than 10 times, he was dismayed to find that the soft rubber soles of his Swiss-made footwear had begun to disintegrate. The biscuit manufacturer from Sitiawan took his complaint to the Consumer Claims Tribunal, which awarded him RM750 yesterday. In his claims, Yam had alleged that the soles of the shoes he bought in January last year had disintegrated because they could not withstand Malaysia’s hot and humid weather.

Anyone who has things to complain??? Please do not hesitate to contact the Consumer Claims Tribunal.

300

300 is a 2007 film adaptation of the graphic novel 300 by Frank Miller about the Battle of Thermopylae. The film is directed by Zack Snyder with Frank Miller attached as an executive producer and consultant.

Spartan King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and 300 Spartans fight to the last man against Persian King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and his massive army of more than one million soldiers. Facing insurmountable odds, the Spartans' sacrifice inspires all of Greece to unite against the Persian invaders. The story is based on the Battle of Thermopylae which took place in 480 BC, although a narration by Dilios (David Wenham) gives a historical fantasy feel. At Sparta, Queen Gorgo (Lena Headey) attempts to rally support for her husband.

Watched it, and might watch it again.

Mission 2057

At first I wonder why 2057?
Vision 2020 sound much better than it.
On second thought out independence was on 1957, then on 2057 Malaysia will be celebrating it's centenarian by then, a 50 years development plan sound like a good plan.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) Supreme Council agreed that the country embark on a new challenge, "Mission 2057", to ensure continued development in all aspects since independence and after Vision 2020 had been achieved.

Well time for you to sit back and ponder what M'sia had achieved in the past 50 years.
What did changes that you noticed?
What changes do you expect in 2057?

2006 SPM Top scorer.

Fifty pennants adorned a two-kilometre stretch of road leading to SMK Tun Sardon Rengit here, congratulating the 18-year-old, for doing her family and school proud by scoring 19As in last year’s examination. Rengit state assemblyman Ayub Jamil said the state government had spent RM3,000 on the pennants.

What is the purpose of the pennant? It is a waste of government money... Might as well just give it to the people there rather than those pennants.

Wondering what 19 subjects she took?

  1. Ekonomi Asas,
  2. Tasawwur Islam,
  3. Pendidikan al-Quran dan As-Sunnah,
  4. Pendidikan Syariah Islamiah,
  5. Science,
  6. Geography,
  7. Business and Literature.
  8. Bahasa Melayu,
  9. English,
  10. Mathematics,
  11. Additional Maths,
  12. Physics,
  13. Chemistry,
  14. Biology,
  15. History,
  16. Islam,
  17. English for Science and Technology (EST),
  18. Accounts.

Well, I only counted 18, the other one I have no idea where it came from?
1119? Or the " Business and Literature " is calculated as two subjects.

I think she don't need to further her studies anymore since she already know everything.

Malaysia Automatic Toilet

After months of waiting, I finally visited the First Malaysia Automatic Toilet, which cost the govt RM 400,000 each.

Instructions on how to use the toilet, first put 20 cents in the the machine and the door will open automatically. Don't worry if you have no small change, there is a toilet attendant there to welcome you.

The basin are fitted with automatic water and soap dispenser with an automatic hand blower as well.

Since you are going allocated 15 minutes in the toilet, the air-condition is installed to keep you cool while you enjoy your visit.

For those who usually uses public toilet in KL, each entry cost 50 cents and if you tissue, you will need to pay an additional 50 cents. The automatic toilets have endless supplies of tissues, the best of all, it cost only 20 cents pervisit.

It is like doing your business in a lift. Everything is brand new, fitted with air-con with nice tiles flooring.

SMART Tunnel

Heavy vehicles and motorcycles will be barred from using the soon-to be completed SMART (Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel) tunnel for safety reasons. Work on the RM1.922 billion project started in 2003 aimed at alleviating flash floods. It comprise a 10 km stormwater tunnel and a double-storey motorway tunnel.

But the SMART director Datuk Azmi Mat Nor said when operational, the tunnel that is expected to ease congestion along Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Sungai Besi will only be for light vehicles.

I guess heavy vehicles and motorcycles are not "SMART" enough that is why they are not allowed to use the RM 1.922 billion SMART tunnel.

BTW if anyone of you are "SMART", please participate in the SMART Tunnel Run on 11 March 2007. This event is held in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Malaysia. The 10km run inside the tunnel (7.5km) and along Jalan Davis/Jalan Tun Razak (2.5km).

Bull and Bear

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) made fresh rally highs in early trade last week and then plunged on a broad sell-off influenced by the huge losses in Asian exchanges triggered by China’s Shanghai Exchange debacle. It finally closed Friday with massive losses.
Markets in Asia and Europe fell again Monday, extending their slide into a second week as investors worried about a possible global slowdown dumped stocks that had surged in recent weeks.
.
Investors everywhere were making great leaps of faith after the Chinese New Year break. Few were the voices of doom and many were the believers that the world had entered a golden age of prosperity that would allow the bull market to charge ahead forever. When everyone least expected it, the balloon hit the pin.

Gambling during CNY

Eleven charged with gambling during CNY celebrations

Ten men and a woman were charged in a magistrate’s court here on Monday with gambling in public during the Chinese New Year celebrations.

The 11, aged between 24 and 64 years old, were accused of committing the offence on March 2, just two days before Chap Goh Meh, around 7am at a stall along Jalan Club in Jinjang Utara.

Under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, the offence is punishable with a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months’ jail or both upon conviction.

You guys out there better becareful when you are gambling at home as well. I guess policemen have nothing much to do during CNY. It will be a trend that every CNY there will be at least a group of people arrested for gambling in public.

Good night sleep.

Getting a solid 7 to 8 hours of sleep? Head for the kitchen and enjoy one or two of these 10 foods. They relax tense muscles, quiet buzzing minds, or get calming.

Bananas. They're practically a sleeping pill in a peel. In addition bananas contain magnesium, a muscle relaxant.

Chamomile tea. The reason chamomile is such a staple of bedtime tea blends is its mild sedating effect - it's the perfect natural antidote for restless minds/bodies.

Warm milk. It's not a myth. Milk has some tryptophan - an amino acid that has a sedative - like effect - and calcium, which helps the brain use tryptophan. Plus there's the psychological throw-back to infancy, when a warm bottle meant "relax, everything's fine."

Honey. Drizzle a little in your warm milk or herb tea. Lots of sugar is stimulating, but a little glucose tells your brain to turn off orexin, a recently discovered neurotransmitter that's linked to alertness.

Potatoes. A small baked spud won't overwhelm your GI tract, and it clears away acids that can interfere with yawn-inducing tryptophan. To up the soothing effects, mash it with warm milk.

Oatmeal. Oats are a rich source of sleep - inviting melatonin, and a small bowl of warm cereal with a splash of maple syrup is cozy - plus if you've got the munchies, it's filling too.

Almonds. A handful of these heart-healthy nuts can be snooze-inducing, as they contain both tryptophan and a nice dose of muscle-relaxing magnesium.

Whole-wheat bread. A slice of toast with your tea and honey will release insulin, which helps tryptophan get to your brain, where it's converted to serotonin and quietly murmurs "time to sleep."

Hopefully with those images, the explaination would be much better to be understood. As some may as, 'What is a banana?', 'What is Chamomile tea?'.

Bali

Bali, a tropical island in the Indonesian archipelago, is so picturesque and immaculate it could almost be a painted backdrop. It has rice paddies tripping down hillsides like giant steps, volcanoes soaring up through the clouds, dense tropical jungle, long sandy beaches, warm blue water, crashing surf and friendly people who don't just have a culture but actually live it. In Bali spirits come out to play in the moonlight, every night is a festival and even a funeral is an opportunity to have a good time.
Unlike any other island in largely Muslim Indonesia, Bali is a pocket of Hindu religion and culture, although Balinese Hinduism is so far removed from the original Indian variety that the casual eye will be hard put to spot any similarities.
Amusement Parks in Bali:

Air Bali, Helicopter tour around Bali.

Bird Park,
Butterfly Park,
Camel Safari,
Elephant Safari Park, A trip on the elephants in the jungles, that can last 15, 40 or 60 min. During this time if there are not many tourists it is possible to ride the elephant sitting on its neck, make some circus tricks, get into the swimmimg-pool. The price is approximately 60 USD.
Odyssey Submarine, Underwater tour.

Rimba Reptile Park, Adjacent to Bird Park.

Waterbom Park, Swimming pool, water slides.

Zoo Park, Wildlife conservation area.

Garuda Wisnu Kencana. Created by I Nyoman Nuarta. This is statue of god Wisnu riding the mythical Garuda bird.
Bali Bomb, This monument commemorates the 202 victims of the first Bali Bomb attack in October 2002, including 161 tourists from 21 countries. The site of the former Sari Club, obliterated in one of the blasts, lies adjacent to the monument. It has not been redeveloped.

Angkor Wat

There are two great complexes of ancient temples in Southeast Asia, one at Bagan in Burma, the other at Angkor in Cambodia. The temples of Angkor, built by the Khmer civilization between 802 and 1220 AD, represent one of humankind's most astonishing and enduring architectural achievements.

This is a sunrise view from Angkor Wat.... so peaceful.

Elephants scuptures

Since the 1990s Angkor Wat has seen a resumption of conservation efforts and a massive increase in tourism. The temple is part of the Angkor World Heritage Site, established in 1992. The temple has become a symbol of Cambodia, and is a source of great pride for the country's people. A depiction of Angkor Wat has been a part of every Cambodian national flag since the introduction of the first version circa 1863.

Angkor Wat has become a major tourist destination: attendance figures for the temple are not published, but in 2004 the country received just over a million international arrivals, of whom according to the Ministry of Tourism 57% planned to visit the temple. The influx of tourists has so far caused relatively little damage, other than some graffiti; ropes and wooden steps have been introduced to protect the bas reliefs and floors, respectively. Tourism has also provided some additional funds for maintenance approximately 28% of ticket revenues across the whole Angkor site is spent on the temples although most work is carried out by foreign government-sponsored teams rather than by the Cambodian authorities.
