SMART Tunnel

Heavy vehicles and motorcycles will be barred from using the soon-to be completed SMART (Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel) tunnel for safety reasons. Work on the RM1.922 billion project started in 2003 aimed at alleviating flash floods. It comprise a 10 km stormwater tunnel and a double-storey motorway tunnel.

But the SMART director Datuk Azmi Mat Nor said when operational, the tunnel that is expected to ease congestion along Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Sungai Besi will only be for light vehicles.

I guess heavy vehicles and motorcycles are not "SMART" enough that is why they are not allowed to use the RM 1.922 billion SMART tunnel.

BTW if anyone of you are "SMART", please participate in the SMART Tunnel Run on 11 March 2007. This event is held in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Malaysia. The 10km run inside the tunnel (7.5km) and along Jalan Davis/Jalan Tun Razak (2.5km).
