Organ & Tissue donation.

Saw an article in the newspaper today regarding Organ & Tissue donor.

Age criterion:
There is no age limit. Those over the age of 18 only have to fill in the form and send it. Those under the age of 18 must obtain consent from the parents or legal guardian.

Inform immediate family members:
Family consent is an essential component, and their permission is required before any organ or tissue donation procedures can proceed.

Fill in the pledge form:
Fill in the form available from any of the sources listed below. It is a simple process, but remember to fill in all relevant sections carefully.

Mail it and wait for a donor card:
Once the form is completed, remember to mail it. The National Transplant Resource Centre will enter your details into its database and you will receive a donor card. Once received, you will officially be classified as an organ or tissue pledger.

Always keep donor card with you:
Remember to carry your card wherever you go. Your noble intentions will come to naught if there is no way to identify you as a pledger.

Signing up as an organ or tissue donor is a fully reversible process.

If you change your mind, all you have to do is inform your family and return your donor card to the National Transplant Resource Centre and state your intention to be deregistered as an organ donor.
